Increasing evidence from around the world suggests that protected areas are not only established as a
Protected Areas (PAs) and Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) hold immeasurable benefit, providing people with subsistence and income generation from plant products, wood, wildlife, recreation/sustainable tourism, and both cultural and spiritual attributes. They also provide other ecosystem services such as regulating climate and disease, supporting nutrient cycles, oxygen production, and maintaining ecological balance.
Wildlife residing in PAs play an integral role in maintaining natural capital and ecosystem function and PAs have become some of the last remaining habitat for some rare species. As wildlife has come under threat by extensive exploitation and organized commercial poaching, management of these areas has become ever more critical and challenging.
